Carey Evans has been working artistically her entire life. Her parents could see early on that she had an eye for creative design and enrolled her in art focused schools in her hometown. After studying art history, painting, drawing, and sculpture she was led to another, less common, skill of welding. Carey was always the first to grab tools and work when the local theater, and later her college and professional theaters, needed help with construction. From backstage, and then onstage, she always added her creative input into set design and construction.
When television design shows started airing, Carey saw an area in which she could really contribute. Not only can she creatively design the room, she can build it too! Her love for understanding her clients' needs comes across in all of her designs, and she is able to use her wide experience in unexpected ways. From turning a family heirloom into something useful to tearing down a wall, Carey is quite the handy 'woman' to always have around. No two rooms are ever the same for Carey, because each client brings new tastes and experiences into the space.
You can currently catch Carey Evans and her design work on three separate shows that are airing on the Home and Garden Television Network. Look for her in multiple episodes of "My First Place," "FreeStyle," and "Don't Sweat it With Steve Watson" as well as some up-coming press and other television ventures. When not traveling or working, Carey can be found trying out new designs in her own home, in New York City. |

What makes you passionate about Design?
Everything comes down to meeting new people and finding out what the needs are for their space. I love visually expressing what they cannot explain or do fully for themselves. When I look around I always try to see new uses for belongings, and look for the beauty in any object.
What is your personal design style?
I would call what I do Creative Problem Solving. My goal is to adapt to the style of my clients and solve their design dilemmas through their tastes. It is my belief that a room should always reflect the people who live there and not the designer's style. The homeowner needs to feel that the finished room was inspired by them and is open for them to further personalize.
What is your design philosophy?
I believe that everyone deserves to have a place of their own that is tailored to their needs. In this hectic world, it is so important to create an uncluttered and personalized space at home. I want to make good design accessible for anyone; no budget is too small, or project too overwhelming for planning and creativity to solve. My goal is to envision the ideal place for each person - whether that is an energizing or soothing room, a room that isolates, or a room that brings people together - and I always add a little touch of humor and heart. |
